In 2024, Shinas Port—a vital strategic port in the North Al Batinah Governorate of Oman—saw a notable surge in ship traffic, cargo handling, and animal transportation.

The performance of Muscat-Port demonstrates its expanding contribution to strengthening the national economy and promoting regional and global trade.

According to Shinas Port Executive Director Khater bin Ali Al Maamari, the port handled 707 ships in 2024—a remarkable 41 percent increase over 2023. Additionally, more than 100,000 tons of products worth more than RO 11.5 million were handled at the port, including both imports and exports.

Approximately 91,343 tons of cargo were imported into Shinas Port. This comprised essential things such food products (4,083.07 tons), general goods (4,273.68 tons), and building and construction materials (21,665.98 tons). The port also made it easier to import camels and cattle, receiving 15,815 heads, or 469 tons.

11,676.12 tons of cargo were shipped to the port on the export side. This comprised 8,643 tons of general commodities, 33 tons of food items, and 461 tons of building supplies. Interestingly, the most important exports were cattle and camels, with 70,761 heads totaling 2,133 tons sent.
Al Maamari credited Shinas Port’s outstanding success to significant infrastructural and service upgrades that have strengthened the port’s standing as one of the Sultanate’s most significant maritime hubs. It is anticipated that the expansion of ship size and port processing volume would continue to support the various economic sectors and promote more seamless regional and global trade.

The port is positioned to make a substantial contribution to Oman’s larger economic goals in the upcoming years as it becomes more and more important in improving the country’s trade connectivity.
